Abstract: Background and aim: Large anatomic defects of the diaphragmatic hiatus known as giant hiatal hernias could be associated with reflux esophagitis disease (GERD) and other life-threatening complications such as gastric volvulus, ischemia and perforation, thus surgical repair is warranted.
