Laparascopic Nephrectomy: Different Techniques and Approaches

Abstract: Nephrectomy is, perhaps, one of the techniques in which laparoscopic approach has been widely used. It has quickly evolved since Clayman introduced it in 1990 with a renal tumor. Since then, its goodness has been extrapolated to most entities that require surgical removal of the kidney. We review the current most discussed aspects referred to the main laparoscopic nephrectomy techniques (simple nephrectomy, nephroureterectomy, radical, and nephron-sparing nephrectomy) and particularities of this approach.

“…The transperitoneal technique might be finished using a hand or a full laparoscopic surgery. Using the incision in the hand port, the laparoscopic hand-assisted approach enables the surgeon to use his hand to help with dissection, retraction, and kidney excision (4) .…”

“…Nonetheless, nowadays there are numerous studies that report the outcomes of this approach for the treatment of specific entities and compare them with the transperitoneal approach. (5,6) Performing some of the techniques of the lumboscopic approach is more difficult. Medical literature reports varying percentages of complications and need of conversion to open surgery, in correspondence with the complexity of the techniques included in the different studies.…”
