Lanthanum Influence onEuAlO3Perovskite Structural Properties: Experimental and Molecular Dynamics Studies

Abstract: X-ray diffraction,27Al MAS NMR, and FTIR spectra along with results of molecular dynamics simulations were used to characterise LaxEu1−xAlO3perovskites forx=0.3,  0.1. Experimental and simulation results show that local changes in the perovskite-like structure can be achieved as lanthanum ions substitute europium ones. The introduction of La3+ions in the EuAlO3parent causes an increase in the mobility of oxygen network.

“…This amount represents <2 wt % of the powder, which could explain why it can hardly be observed by XRD. The 27 Al signal of LaAlO 3 was previously reported at 14 ppm, 34 in agreement with the value of 11.7 ppm determined here (Table 4) and corroborating the AlO 6 environment. 35 As expected for the two paramagnetic compounds, AmAlO 3 and PuAlO 3 , the NMR shifts are outside of the range of −10 to 15 ppm expected for an AlO 6 octahedron.…”

“…This indicates that the dopants enter the host lattice in a homogeneous way and preserve the crystallinity of the structure. 18 It should be noted that with increase in dopant concentration, the material's crystal structure would undergo more pronounced changes, potentially leading to the formation of sublattices, that could have a detrimental impact on the desired structural homogeneity.…”
