Lanthanum chromite based perovskites for oxygen transport membrane

Abstract: Judicious selection of mixed ionic-electronic conducting (MIEC) perovskite oxide as oxygen transport membrane (OTM) offers the potential to enhance overall process economics and systems performance for a wide variety of industrial applications ranging from clean and efficient energy conversion (oxy-combustion) to selective gas separation (high purity oxygen production) and value added chemicals (syngas and liquid fuel) production with near-zero greenhouse gas emissions. Doped lanthanum chromite perovskites hav… Show more

“…In this way ceria can be reduced (Ce +3 ) or oxidized (Ce +4 ) in fuel rich and lean conditions respectively [11,14,30]. WGS reaction activity is strongly dependent upon the structure of the ceria support and the nature of the interaction between the metal/metal oxide and the support [31].…”

“…The volatility of chromium in LaCrO 3 at high temperatures is a well-known challenge [12]. Since a high sintering temperature (≥1425 • C) was required to densify the composite membrane in our work, it is not surprising that we also encountered loss of Cr from the outer membrane part.…”

“…There are no previous reports on the TEC of the specific LCCN composition. The TEC of LaCrO 3 (4.6 × 10 −6 K −1 in the range 40-275 • C, 9.4 × 10 −6 K −1 in the range 290-1050 • C, and 9.8 × 10 −6 K −1 in the range 1100-1395 • C) [37,38] can be adjusted by doping to be similar to fluorite structured materials like zirconia [12]. Ni is expected to slightly decrease the TEC of LaCrO 3 , and Cu is not expected to increase it as much as elements with spin transitions such as Co [39].…”
