Five different types of dual organic-amine templated lanthanide sulfates, (SO 4 ) 8 ] (5) (LnLDy (5a), Ho (5b), Er (5c), Tm (5d), Yb (5e), Lu (5f)) have been solvothermally obtained by employing dimethylacetamide (DMAc) as solvent and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, thermal analysis, fluorescent spectra and ICP. The zigzag chain structure of compound 1 is constructed from two types of 4-membered rings (4 MRs) which connect each other alternately by sulfate groups. The one-dimensional (1D) chainlike structure of compound 2 is alternately linked by tetramer [Eu 2 (SO 4 ) 2 O 10 ] and 4 MR units. Compounds 3a to 3c are isomorphous and have similar interesting two-dimensional (2D) frameworks fabricated through zigzag chains and 12 MRs, fully protonated ethylenediamine (en) are located in 12 MRs and protonated dimethylamine (dma) are located between the inorganic layers. Compound 4 exhibits a 2D layered structure and the plane layers consist of two types of double stranded chains and 12 MRs. Compounds 5a to 5f are also isomorphous and feature a binuclear lanthanide cluster structure. Although the 12 compounds were synthesized under the same conditions except the rare earth oxide types, they belong to five types of structures and we can clearly see obvious transitivity and uniformity, as the ionic radius decreases, the coordination number of the rare earth elements decreases from 9 to 8 and the lanthanide contraction supports crystal structures concerning a sterically hindered coordination atmosphere. The luminescent properties of compounds 2, 3a and 3c exhibit characteristic europium and terbium luminescence.

ABSTRACT.[Sm(H2O)4(NO3)3](4,4'-Hbipy)2(NO3)2 (1) (bipy = bipyridine) has been synthesized via hydrothermal reaction and characterized by X-ray diffraction. The title complex features an isolated structure, based on discrete 4,4'-Hbipy moieties, isolated nitrates and [Sm(H2O)4(NO3)3] species. The samarium ion is in a distorted bicapped square antiprism environment, coordinated by three bidentate nitrates and four coordination water molecules. The 4,4'-Hbipy moieties, isolated nitrates and [Sm(H2O)4(NO3)3] species are held together via hydrogen bonds and … interactions to form a 3-D supramolecular framework. Luminescent investigation reveals a strong emission in blue region. Optical absorption spectrum of 1 reveals the presence of an optical gap of 3.60 eV.

Two neodymium sulfate based purely inorganic networks, [Nd(SO4)2(H2O)3](NH4)·H2O (1) and [Nd2(SO4)3(H2O)4]·H2O (2) have been synthesized at different reaction temperatures and pH values. The structure of 1 features a two‐dimensional (2D) anionic corrugated sheet with an sql topological net built up by linking NdO8 units and μ2‐SO42− anions, in which the NH4+ charge‐compensating/templating cations occupy the intersheet layers. While 2 possesses a 3D neutral framework with an unprecedented (3,42,7‐c) net constructed by NdO9 units and μ4‐ and μ6‐SO42− linkers. They exhibit thermally induced irreversible structural transformation associated with the dehydration and the changes in coordination geometry and dimensionality. Both compound 1 and 2 display typical antiferromagnetic interactions between the Nd3+ centres. In addition, the CO2 adsorption isotherms of the desolvated samples 1 and 2 were also investigated.
