Lanthanide(III) and Yttrium(III) Complexes ofBenzimidazole‐2‐Acetic Acid: Synthesis, Characterisation and Effect of La(III) Complex on Germination of Wheat

Abstract: The synthesis and characterisation of lanthanide(III) and yttrium(III) nitrate complexes of benzimidazole-2-acetic acid (HBIA) are reported. The complexes have been characterised by elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic studies, IR, 1H NMR, UV-visible, EPR, and TG/DTA studies. They have the stoichiometry [ where Ln=La(III), , , , , , , , and . The effect of complex on germination, coleoptile, and root length of two local varieties of wheat DWR-195 and GW-349 for different treatment periods h… Show more

“…The Cd3 atom is approximated by a monocapped octahedral environment and coordinated by two O,O′-chelating μ 3 -HBIP -and μ 3 -BIP 2 − ligands, one N,Ochelating μ 3 -HBIP − ligand, and one coordinated μ 2 -Cl − anion. The Cd\L (L = O or N) distances are in the range of 2.160(7)-2.458(7) Å, and the trans L\Cd\L bond angles vary from 53.9(2)°to 170.76(16)°, which are comparable to those for previously reported benzimidazole-based carboxylate Cd(II) complexes [7,8].…”

“…However, flexible groups display more coordination conformations and lead to more types of SBUs, and benzimidazole groups containing both N and NH groups are easy to involve in coordination, hydrogen bond, and π···π stacking [1-3]. Therefore, this type of ligand is a good candidate for the construction of novel coordination polymers and still needs further exploration.Currently, limited benzimidazole-based N-heterocyclic carboxylic acids such as 1H-benzimidazole-2-carboxylic acid [4-6], 2-(1H-benzimidazole-2-yl) acetic acid [7,8], and 3-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl) propanoic acid (H 2 BIP) [9][10][11] have been demonstrated. To explore the coordination chemistry of this type of ligand, H 2 BIP is chosen as the ligand in the present study to construct new coordination polymers.…”

“…e effect of lanthanide(III) complexes on the growth of plants has been an important topic in agricultural eld. ere are only few reports which explain the auxin effect of lanthanide complexes on plant growth [11,12].…”

“…Literature survey reveals that chelation of lanthanide metal ions with plant growth promoting auxins synergistically increases the plant growth [12]. Keeping this in view, we have synthesized 2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid derived Schiff base and its lanthanide(III) complexes and screened for their auxin activity on wheat seeds.…”
