Abstract:The aim of the chapteri st od emonstrate the responsiveness of language assessment to interdisciplinary research and to present advancements in the field originating from sociocultural psychology and critical theory. The chapter gives as hort overview of critical issues concerning traditional testing and discusses twointerpretivist approaches to language assessment: dynamic assessment and criticallanguage testing, focusing on their contributions and limitations.
