Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis of Bilateral Parotid and Submandibular Glands

Abstract: Langerhans cell histiocytosis is a disorder of the mononuclear phagocytic system. Virtually any organ can be involved, the bone, skin, lungs, and pituitary gland being the most common. We describe the case of a 30-year-old man who presented with painless neck swelling. 18 F-FDG PET/ CT showed bilateral bulky parotid and submandibular glands with increased metabolic activity. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of Langerhans cell histiocytosis. To our knowledge, there has been no description of 18 F-FDG PET/… Show more

“…In the diagnosis of LCH, tissue biopsy, immunohistochemical staining[ 3 ], and 18 F fluorodeoxyglucose PET/CT[ 10 ] can aid in the clinical treatment of LCH patients. In this particular case, the imaging findings and initial clinical manifestation of central diabetes insipidus strongly indicated the possibility of HPR-LCH.…”

“…The results from the specimen of an excisional biopsy led to a diagnosis of Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH). 18 F-FDG PET/CT was implemented for staging 1,2 . The MIP image ( A ) showed intense abnormal activity (arrow) in the left mandible with SUV max of 8.1.…”
