Landslides Occurred in Bujorascu Valley Dump and Stability Improvement Solutions

Abstract: This paper presents some results of the researches regarding the landslides produced in the rock dump Bujorăscu Valley, administrated by National Society of Lignite Oltenia. The paper analyses the geotechnical characteristics of the rocks and water influence on them. It was found that, as a result of water infiltration in the waste dump's body, rocks resistance is considerably reduced and appears areas with high plasticity and sliding surfaces. From the statistic data processing there were established the valu… Show more

“…This software analyses the stability of natural and artificial slopes of any geometry, both under static and seismic conditions, as well as in the presence of pore water in the deposited rocks or on the dump's slopes. The problem of the dump's stability is considered bidimensional and is associated with a plain strain conditions along the surface [1]. Also is accepted the hypothesis that the braking is instantaneous along the sliding surface (for most of the waste dumps from Oltenia the surface is circular).…”

“…Signification of notations in formulas: Although Fellenius method neglects the forces that occur between the strips, is the simplest method of determining the coefficient of stability. This method leads to reduced values for the stability coefficient and is not recommended for slopes with small inclination and high water pressure [1,3].…”

“…The sterile dumps in the Jiu Valley [2][3][4], Hunedoara County, Romania were born by depositing the sterile material resulting from the preparation of coal [2]. The deposited material consists of rocky clayey rocks, marl, coal shale and sandstone [5]. The granulometric state of the material is very different, from millimetre to rock * email: cdipentrucdi@yahoo.com; ioana.ionel@upt.ro fragments of centimetres or even tens of centimetres for mine tailings [3].…”
