Landslide susceptibility assessment in a lesser Himalayan road corridor (India) applying fuzzy AHP technique and earth-observation data

Abstract: The Kalsi-Chakrata road corridor, located in the Lesser Himalayas, experiences several landslides every year, resulting in a considerable amount of damage to roads, assets, and other infrastructure and even loss of lives. During the monsoon season (June-August), the disruption of routes due to landslide resulted in economic losses and barred villagers from accessing critical and essential facilities, thus impacting the livelihood of the communities residing along the road corridor. Hence immediate requirement … Show more

“…[63][64][65] While for landslide, the related topics are land-use and landslide, 66,67 landslide vulnerability and risk assessment. [68][69][70] Other issues related to seismic evidence for earthquakes are mostly on earthquake hazard cases, situated in Turkey's urban area. [71][72][73][74] Eurasian Plate movement was the most frequently discussed topic in these earthquake hazard cases.…”

“…After using the training set to establish a model, the testing set is used to assess the performance of the model. The sample data set commonly contains a 50:50 ratio of landslide and no-landslide samples [9,13,26,27], and the ratio of the training set sample to the testing set sample is typically 70:30 [8,12,13,26,28,29]. Furthermore, when establishing a nonparametric machine learning model, the training set is also used to perform hyperparameter optimization.…”

“…Therefore, the fuzzy AHP was proposed to replace the crisp numbers obtained from decision-makers' judgements in the original AHP method with the fuzzy numbers or fuzzy sets (Chen et al 2011;Lyu et al 2019). For the fuzzy AHP, it has been widely applied into risk assessment, such as the landslide susceptibility and soil slope stability (Zhang et al 2018;Sur et al 2020), which key process is the collection of experts' judgements to determine the fuzzy numbers. Lyu et al (2020d) proposed a new consulting process in fuzzy AHP by performing a risk assessment, which overcomes the deficiency of traditional pairwise questionnaires (Saaty 1977;Li et al 2013a).…”
