Rawapening Lake has specific biogeophysical form, biodiversity potential and socioeconomic also ecological functions which are very important for people's lives and the surrounding environment. Even so, the facts showed that the activities of the population around Rawapening are growing so that problems arise in the form of environmental degradation that has continued to the present. This study aims to determine the development of land cover in the Rawapening River catchment starting from 2000, 2010 and 2019 on the sedimentation rate that occurred in Rawapening Lake. This study applies a Spatialecological approach by using multi-temporal remote sensing image data accompanied by field surveys and secondary data from related agencies. The tools used in this study are image processing software and Global Positioning System (GPS), while the data used utilizes RBI maps, Landsat 7 Satellite Images in 2010 and Landsat 8 in 2019. The results showed an increase in the area of developed land by 1,520.54 ha in the period 2000 -2010 and experienced an increase again in 2019 amounting to 1,330.96 ha. The increase in the area of land developed was due to land conversion, which was largely derived from vegetation cover in the water catchment area (DTA) of Rawapening, where the impact caused by the change in land cover increased the rate of sedimentation that occurred in Rawapening Lake. Therefore, it is necessary to limit the transfer of land functions in the DTA of Rawapening so that it does not cause siltation in Rawapening Lake in the future.

Semarang City, as a capital city of a province in Indonesia, has experienced intensive rural or suburban migration to urban robinareas. Consequently, the land surface temperature (LST) is getting warmer in urbanized areas and leading to microscale temperature variation from time to time. The objectives of this study are 1) to investigate the geographical distribution of LST and vegetation covers in Semarang, and 2) to map microscale urban ecological condition with regards to LST based on urban thermal field variance index (UTFVI). Landsat 8 data was utilized to derive LST as well as vegetation covers by means of normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). Next, UTFVI was classified based LST. This study revealed that relatively low NDVI values which mainly consists of built up areas and grassland are predominantly concentrated in the northern and central parts of Semarang. High NDVI values representing vegetation covers are predominantly located in the southern portion of Semarang. The most ecologically depressed areas are mainly distributed in the central portions of the city toward the northern portions of coastal areas. Prioritized sub-districts to be ecologically restored are Ngaliyan, Semarang Utara and Semarang Barat. Upcoming studies should emphasize on finding suitable measures to restore ecologically stressed areas.

Development of urban areas has penetrated the rural urban fringe of Semarang. The growth of new housing in rural urban fringe is inseparable from the increasing number of people accompanied by an increase demand for residential land. The development of residential areas or new housing in rural urban fringe could lead to various impacts on the environment. This study aims to examine changes in land use (built area) in the rural urban fringe of Semarang, namely in Gunungpati District. The methods used was digital image interpretation with multispectral classification method and pattern comparison analysis to get a frame of land use in 2005, 2010 and 2015. Interpretation results were tested for validity through field observation. The results showed that the dominant land use change occurred for settlement. The change from 2005 to 2010 was 122.33 ha. While from 2010 to 2017, there has been an increase in the area of settlements by 297.54 ha. The non-settlement-built area expansion was from 10.65 ha in 2005 to 51.87 ha in 2017. Environmental impacts that occur include the reduction of water absorption area and rising of surface temperatures in the area which may further affect the pattern or lifestyle of the community Keywords-built area; environmental impact; rural urban fringe; Semarang; settlement I.
