Land use planning for utilizing biomass residues in Tuscia Romana (central Italy): Preliminary results of a multi criteria analysis to create an agro-energy district

Abstract: This study provides a preliminary agro-environmental, economic and energetic analysis to critically evaluate the biomass potential ofan area of central Italy (Tuscia Romana). This area is selected as representative foragro-forestry from its orographic characteristics, climatic conditions, land use and potential energy sources. Accordingly, the model we have obtained could be used forother similar areasof central Italy. We have assessed the potential agro-forestry biomass availability, energy potential and tran… Show more

“…As global business competition becomes more severe, cost reductions are required for efficient and effective firm management, even in small enterprises [36]. In some cases, local economies are beset by negative impacts, for instance, by replacing domestic products with mass produced ones and nationally or globally standardized products.…”

“…AHP was also used in a second step in seven studies, benefiting from prior applications of methods such as GIS , Delphi as noted above (Hsueh and Yan, 2011;Jain et al, 2014), CoP González et al, 2013), and FSEA . In 12 papers, complementarity was related to the adoption of FST Duan et al, 2011;Hsueh and Yan, 2011;Wang et al, 2011;Khoshsolat et al, 2012;Al-Yahyai and Charabi, 2015;Fetanat and Khorasaninejad, 2015;Guo and Zhao, 2015;Colantoni et al, 2016), combining FST with existing methods such as AHP Duan et al, 2011;Hsueh and Yan, 2011;Wang et al, 2011;Khoshsolat et al, 2012), ANP, DEMATEL, ELECTRE (Fetanat and Khorasaninejad, 2015), TOPSIS Khoshsolat et al, 2012;Guo and Zhao, 2015), GIS Al-Yahyai and Charabi, 2015;Colantoni et al, 2016), and VIKOR . In three papers, GIS was used, mutually enhancing WSM , AHP González et al, 2013), and OWA .…”

“…The current energy guidelines requested by the European Community encourage the use of renewable resources as a potential alternative supply to traditional fossil fuels [1][2][3][4]. By supporting sustainable development, energy needs can be met through the conversion of agroforestry biomass into biofuels [5][6][7][8][9][10].…”

“…Therefore, a requirement for establishing sustainable production and consumption chains at the local level emerges [11,12]. Accurate planning becomes crucial to ensure the planning and establishment of agroenergy districts [2,[13][14][15]. Such a procedure requires a careful analysis of potential energy capitals that can be obtained in each territorial area [9,16].…”
