In this work we present an application of InSAR and gravimetric surveys for risk management related to land subsidence and surface ground faulting generation. A subsidence velocity map derived from the 2007-2011 ALOS SAR imagery and a sediment thicknesses map obtained from the inversion of gravimetric data were integrated with a surface fault map to produce a subsidence hazard zoning in the city of Aguascalientes, Mexico. The resulting zoning is presented together with specific recommendations about geotechnical studies needed for further evaluation of surface faulting in these hazard zones. The derived zoning map consists in four zones including null hazard (stable terrain without subsidence), low hazard (areas prone to subsidence), medium hazard (zones with subsidence) and high hazard (zones with surface faulting). InSAR results displayed subsidence LOS velocities up to 10 cm/year and two subsidence areas unknown before this study. Gravimetric results revealed that the thicker sediment sequence is located toward north of Aguascalientes City reaching up to 600 m in thickness, which correspond to a high subsidence LOS velocity zone (up to 6 cm/year).

Increasingly accelerated urbanization and socio-economic development can cause a series of environmental problems. Accurate and efficient monitoring of the geographical conditions is important for achieving sustainable development. This paper presents the first results of the project "Geographical Conditions Monitoring (GCM)" in an exemplified area "Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (BTH)" in China over the last three decades. It focuses on four hot issues in BTH: distribution of dust surfaces and pollution industries, vegetation coverage, urban sprawl, and ground subsidence. The aim of this project is the detection of geographical condition changes and for the description of this development by indicators, as well as the analysis and evaluation of the effects of such processes on selected environmental perspectives. The results have shown that the contributions of the applied GCM in making the plan of urban design and nature conservation. Valuable experience gained from this project would be useful for further developing and applying GCM at the national level.

Coal mining usually causes drastic large gradient deformation in the earth's surface in a short period, which leads to the formation of collapse basin or collapse pit. The drastic deformation renders the generation of dense fringes in interferogram, leading to difficulties in the phase unwrapping step. In this paper we propose using intensity tracking technique to monitor large gradient deformation in the subsidence center. To obtain the small deformation information around the basin and collapse pit, we use Small Baseline Subset (SBAS) interferometry technique to monitor the small deformation , after which we integrate the results under the two methods to obtain complete monitoring results. We take Daliu Tower mining of Shanxi Province in China as an example, using TerraSAR-X satellite data of 13 scenes spanning from 21/11/2012 to 02/04/2013 to conduct deformation monitoring experiment. The experiment result shows that the proposed method has the capability to detect and measure the large gradient deformation, meanwhile, small deformation information is preserved. Moreover, by comparing the experiment monitoring results to continuous GPS measurements, we estimate that the accuracy of deformation monitor is about 8 cm in the range direction.
