Terrestrial gastropods (snail and slug) species were studied concerning their occurrence survey and population density in 25 localities representing five districts of Kafr EL-Sheikh Governorate, during September 2015 to August 2016. An attempts to obtain basic information concerning their relationships between land snail species assemblage and soil properties .Ten herbivorous species, eight land snails and two land slugs' species belonging to three families Helicidae, Succinidae, Limacidae of order Stylomatophora were found on different crops. Population density of Land snails and slug species varied in their incidence and level of infestation according to each locality and host type. Soil samples were taken from five districts due to analytical chemically and assess the relationships between low or high snail population density and soil component. There is positive relation between terrestrial gastropods population and soil calcium content. Organic matter, soil PH and salinity (EC, electric conductivity) with low and high density in all districts were average [(1.2 and 2.9), (7.54 and 9.01) and (1.54 and 4.52)] respectively. It is clearly that Organic matter, soil PH and EC had negative correlation with land gastropods low or high densities. However, the quantitative species composition of the land snail assemblage is related to soil properties to a lower degree than snail density and species richness, and other habitat characteristics such as vegetation can be important for species abundance.

The comparative toxic effect of Vertimec® 1.8% EC, Fast Max Super® 8.4% SC and nano-derived form of abamectin (ABM) (1% nano-emulsion) as a dermal contact for 48 h against land snail, Helix aspersa was evaluated at laboratorial trail. Acute toxicity values (LD50) were 6.45, 11.97, and 45.95 µg snail-1 for nano-derived form of ABM, Fast Max Super® and Vertimec®, respectively. Nano-derived form exhibited the highest toxic effects (1.86 and 7.12-folds), respect to Fast Max Super® and Vertimec®. Sublethal doses: 1/10 and 1/100 LD50s of the examined compounds were applied to evaluate some biochemical alterations e.g. acetylcholinesterase (AChE), malondialdhyde (MDA), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), glutathione-S-transferase (GST), acid phosphatase (ACP), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST), respectively, in haemolymph and digestive glands homogenates. The all treatments significantly decreased AChE activity in ganglia homogenate, respect to control group (untreated). All treatments exhibited MDA level and LDH activity greater than the control in both haemolymph and digestive gland. This concept recognizes the cytotoxic effect of ABM on gastropods. Significant declines in GST, ACP, and ALP activities were exhibited in homogenate of digestive gland for the all treatments. However, AST/ALT activities exhibited increase greater than untreated group. These findings may explain the role of these doses of ABM for dysfunction in organs of H. aspersa. Thus, prepared nano-emulsion was more potent toxic on land snails. However, H. aspersa is considered a useful tool to assess ecotoxicological impact of pesticides.

Land molluscs became one of the most serious pests attacking many plants including ornamental plants. Occurrence of certain land gastropods associated with some ornamental plants at Kafr EL-Sheikh Governorate was conducted. Results revealed that the land snails, Eobania vermiculata and Succinea putris and the land slug Deroceras reticulatum were recorded on the tested plants. E vermiculata was the predominant species while the other identified gastropods showed lower infestation levels. Therefore ,the seasonal abundance of the predominant snail, E vermiculata was studied and results showed that the population of E vermiculata was increased during spring months (171.99 snails/ 1 / 2 m 2 ) as compared to summer and autumn (149,34 and 59,33),respectively whereas the infestation was the least during winter (40.67 snails/ 1 / 2 m 2 ). Malabar was superior among the tested plants since it attracted the highest number of snails with mean of (5.68 ± 1.56) snails/ 1 / 2 m 2 followed by Hlibiscus, basil, kockia, DustyMiller, Manitoka and Royal palm, respectively. Both of Pricharida and Duranta were the least attractive to snails. Concerning the efficacy of certain pesticides against E vermiculata under field conditions, Data revealed that Agrinate was more toxic to snails than the other pesticides, since it achieved the highest reduction percentage of snail population of (69.03 ± 7.2 ) % followed by Vicarb with reduction of (55.87 ± 6.8)% while Uphold was the least in this respect with reduction percentage of (25.41±2.6)%.
