“…In our study, neither the epithelial BM nor the DM were immunoreactive for LM 1 chain, in agreement with Filenius et al (2001) and our previous data showing the disappearance of this chain from the epithelial BM of the human cornea after 12 wg and from the DM after 17 wg (Byström et al 2006). We were not able to detect any speciWc staining in the adult human cornea using a polyclonal antibody against LM 1 chain (Tiger et al 1997), although this antibody worked well in fetal corneal specimens (Byström et al 2006).…”

“…21 Moreover, a recent study demonstrated that the adhesion of HCEC to plain plastic dishes was also abolished by monoclonal integrin a 3 b 1 antibodies, because HCEC newly secreted endogenous laminin-5, the main ligand for integrin a 3 b 1 . 22 We found that the cells grown in the presence of antibody against integrin a 3 b 1 decreased in cell number, but were not blocked at the G 0 /G 1 phase of the cell cycle. Our data is supported by the results that antibody against integrin a 3 b 1 also inhibited the cell number of the breast epithelial cells, but did not block the growth at a particular stage in the cell cycle.…”

“…Adhesion and, in consequence, migration and proliferation depend on the function of integrin receptors. We found that the epithelial cells from the anterior capsule expressed β1α3, which is a receptor for a variety of extracellular matrix proteins including laminin and collagen IV [5,8]. Because the distribution of these integrin subunits was strongly impaired by treatment with Mibefradil we believe that inhibition of adhesion is significantly caused by the effect on β1α3 integrins.…”
