In this work, we investigate the consequences of the spontaneous breaking of Lorentz symmetry, triggered by the bumblebee vector field, on the usual Einstein-Hilbert theory. Specifically, we consider the Einstein-Hilbert action modified by the bumblebee dynamic field, and evaluate the graviton propagator using an extended basis of Barnes-Rivers tensor projectors, involving the Lorentz-violating vector. Once the propagator is carried out, we proceed with discussing the consistency of the model, writing the dispersion relations, and analyzing causality and unitarity.We verify that this model possesses two dispersion relations: one provides causal and unitary propagating modes, while the second yields a causal but nonunitary mode which spoils the physical consistency of the model.

It is possible to show that there are three independent families of models describing a massive spin-2 particle via a rank-2 tensor. One of them contains the massive Fierz-Pauli model, the only case described by a symmetric tensor. The three families have different local symmetries in the massless limit and can not be interconnected by any local field redefinition. We show here, however, that they can be related with the help of a decoupled and nondynamic (spectator) field. The spectator field may be either an antisymmetric tensor B ¼ ÀB , a vector A or a scalar field ', corresponding to each of the three families. The addition of the extra field allows us to formulate master actions which interpolate between the symmetric Fierz-Pauli theory and the other models. We argue that massive gravity models based on the Fierz-Pauli theory are not expected to be equivalent to possible local self-interacting theories built up on top of the two new families of massive spin-2 models. The approach used here may be useful to investigate dual (nonsymmetric) formulations of higher-spin particles.

Following a procedure recently utilized by Accioly et al. to obtain the D-dimensional interparticle potential energy for electromagnetic models in the nonrelativistic limit, and relaxing the condition assumed by the authors concerning the conservation of the external current, the prescription found out by them is generalized so that dual models can also be contemplated. Specific models in which the interaction is mediated by a spin-0 particle described first by a vector field and then by a higher-derivative vector field, are analyzed. Systems mediated by spin-1 particles described, respectively, by symmetric rank-2 tensors, symmetric rank-2 tensors augmented by higher derivatives, and antisymmetric rank-2 tensors, are considered as well.
