Abstract:Reversible phosphorylation modulates many proteins involved in glycogenesis and glycogenolysis. Recent results from mammalian cells, mouse models, eukaryotic algae, and plants have identified a new phosphorylation target in glycogen metabolism, the glucan itself.Mutations in EPM2A lead to Lafora disease, a fatal neurodegenerative disease. EPM2A encodes laforin, a bimodular protein with an amino‐terminal carbohydrate binding module and a carboxy‐terminal dual specificity phosphatase domain. We recently demonstr… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
