Ladder‐type Diindenopyrazine Based Conjugated Copolymers for Organic Solar Cells with High Open‐circuit Voltages

Abstract: A ladder-type diindenopyrazine (IPY) was synthesized and used as a building block for constructing conjugated copolymers. Three copolymers based on the IPY moiety were obtained via the Suzuki coupling reaction with different monomers, including 4,7-dithien-2-yl-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole (DBT), 5,8-dithien-2-yl-2,3-diphenylquinoxaline (DTQ), and 5,8-dithien-2-yl-2,3-di(4-fluorophenyl)quinoxaline (DFTQ). The obtained polymers were characterized by 1 H NMR spectroscopy, UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, cyclic voltamm… Show more

“…In this paper, BDT was selected as a donor unit due to its excellent electron donating capability and electron transmiting capability, and benzothiadiazole [23][24][25][26][27][28][29] or carbazole [30][31][32] was linked with BDT via acetylene as a bridge to form a D-linker-A conjugated system. By comparison, carbazole showed relatively weaker electron-withdrawing ability than benzothiadizole.…”

“…Therefore, in order to enhance the V oc s of tandem solar cells, a replacement of P3HT with spectrally optimized large band-gap polymers is urgently needed. [10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18] Recently, large or medium band-gap polymers with V oc s exceeding 1.0 V have been developed by a number of research groups. 6,[10][11][12][13][14][15][16] For example, Lam et al developed a donoracceptor copolymer using pyrrolo [3,4-f]-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole-5,7-dione as the electron acceptor.…”

Although the resulting PSC exhibited an exceptionally large V oc of 1.10 V, only a low PCE of 1.61% was achieved due to the low J sc of 4.0 mA cm À2 and the low FF of 0.33.…”
