Lacosamide

Abstract

S Lacosamide Acute pancreatitis: case reportA 46-year-old man developed acute pancreatitis while receiving lacosamide [Vimpat].The man was receiving lacosamide 100mg daily for fibromyalgia [route not stated]. He was admitted with necrotising acute pancreatitis affecting 30% of the gland.The man made a full recovery, and he was discharged. The man continued receiving lacosamide, and 1 month later, he presented with epigastric pain and vomiting. He had been receiving lacosamide for 1 year. Laboratory tests revealed elevated amylase and CRP levels of 409 U/L and 19.2 mg/dL, respectively. He also had a haemoglobin level of 11.8 g/dL. Abdominal ultrasound found an acalculous gallbladder and heterogeneous pancreas with a layer of peripancreatic fluid. Lacosamide was withdrawn. Four weeks later, MRI cholangiography found a collection of fluid adjacent to the pancreatic body. Echoendoscopy revealed a pseudocyst displacing his stomach. A diablo prosthesis was placed, and cystogastrostomy obtained a clear fluid.
