The amorphous polymer film swelling in a liquid solvent below the glass transition temperature was characterized by a few kinetic parameters (especially the mutual diffusion coefficient of swelling and its mean value) obtained by interference of monochromatic light in the wedge arrangement. This interferometric method allows one to determine the concentration field in the swollen surface layer and consequently to compute the concentration-dependent diffusion coefficient. A software system developed at the Department of Physics and Material Engineering at TBU in Zlin has been used for the evaluation of the main kinetic parameters of the swelling process. The software can be used for the on-line analyses of interferograms during the swelling process. The main application outputs are the computation of the concentration profile, the concentration gradient, the mutual diffusion coefficient of the swelling by the solvent and its mean value.

Screen Printed Thick Film Reference Electrodes for Electrochemical Sensing

This paper presents printed thick film Ag|AgCl|KCl reference electrodes (RE) for electrochemical sensors. The screenprinted REs with 10-µm thick glass-KCl salt matrix layer exhibit a stable potential of 5 mV. Cyclic voltammetric analysis shows that the anodic and cathodic peak current of the RE increases with the scan rate in the range of 25-150 mVs −1. The analytical performance of the REs shows a stable open circuit potential for the NaCl concentrations in the range of 30-100 mM. Testing the presented REs for electrochemical pH sensor application (with RuO 2-based sensitive electrode) the sensitivity of 55 mV/pH was noted in the pH range of 4.5-9. Evaluating the effect of temperature on the performance of REs, a potential variation of −3.8 mV/°C was observed. Finally, a LabVIEW interface was developed to store, analyze, and calculate the sensitivity of the sensor under different temperature conditions. The LabVIEW interface can also be used to calculate the pH-value/temperature of unknown solutions under known temperature/pH conditions.

A test system based on 485 network is designed and built, with the industrial control computer PC as the control unit. It implements the on-board miniaturization, intelligent unmanned, distributed networked test of metro vehicle brake disc temperature rise. Meanwhile, personal PC can receive the data collected by industrial control computer PC through the serial port. Industrial control computer PC software and personal PC software are using LABVIEW graphical language. In the case of long unattended, the industrial control computer PC automatically and completely saves vehicle brake disc temperature rise data. Personal PC, at the same time, has access to historical data saved by industrial control computer PC through the local area network. It achieves a quick copy of historical test data.
