Labia Majora Hypertrophy

Abstract: A case involving hypertrophy of the labia majora is described. A married 34-year-old mother of a 5-year-old daughter reported that from adolescence, her large labia majora and its protuberance have resembled male genitalia even when she is wearing a slip. “…At the mons pubis, the skin flap over the outlined area was elevated and followed by the resection of the excess fat (lipectomy) in this region. Main neurovascular structures supplying the genitovulvar area, which include the pudendal artery and vein, pudendal nerve and perineal nerve are located deep to the subcutaneous tissue [8]. However, careful resection was performed to avoid injury to these important structures.…”

“…If excess skin is the cause of labia majora hypertrophy, resection of skin and fatty tissue is recommended. 30 Longitudinal resection of skin and subcutaneous tissue with scar placement in the vulva-thigh crease 22 reduces the size of the labia without disturbing the labial edge ( Figure 15). Markings are made in the crural crease, and the tissue to be resected is determined by the pinch test.…”
