Abstract: The trajectory of Joseph-Guillaume Barthe (1816-1893, from Le Populaire in May 1837 to Souvenirs d'un demi-siècle (1885), crosses the whole of the 19th century. Barthe's Liberal romanticism, valued in the 1830s, was very different from the conservative romanticism which was already taking place in the 1840s and which would become the norm in the 1860s with Henri-Raymond Casgrain.
