RESUME : Le Paléolithique inférieur et moyen de Lorraine est relativement mal connu, et le nombre des sites stratifiés encore trop peu élevé pour en traduire l'évolution. Par contre, les gisements de surface sont nombreux, mais d'interprétation moins crédible, de par leur condition de découverte. La région sud de Nancy a livré plus de 65 000 artefacts, répartis sur 227 sites de plein air. Parmi ceux-ci, une série de gisements archaïques dominés par l'abondance des galets aménagés. Ils viennent de faire l'objet d'une thèse (Diplôme de recherches doctorales) par l'auteur, à l'aide de plusieurs méthodes originales complémentaires.
