La résistance à la sécheresse du soja I. - Influence d'un déficit hydrique sur la croissance et la production

Abstract

Cette étude a pour objet d'apprécier chez le Soja l'influence d'un déficit hydrique sur la formation de l'appareil végétatif et les composantes du rendement et d'estimer la variabilité génétique existant pour la résistance à la sécheresse. Pour cela, 15 variétés ont été cultivées en bacs de végétation et soumises, à partir de la floraison, à 2 régimes hydriques, l'un satisfaisant les besoins en eau de la plante, l'autre étant déficitaire. Des prélèvements ont été effectués à 5 reprises à partir de la floraison ainsi qu'à la maturité. C'est la surface foliaire par plante qui, avec la teneur en eau des différents organes, apparaît comme le caractère le plus rapidement affecté par le déficit hydrique. Parmi les composantes du rendement, c'est le nombre de gousses par plante qui diminue le plus. Un indice de résistance à la sécheresse a été établi, égal au rapport des rendements en graines dans les 2 régimes hydriques. La validité de cet indice et celle du dispositif expérimental sont discutées. Les résultats obtenus montrent des différences variétales relativement importantes pour la résistance à la sécheresse. Un programme de sélection du soja pour ce caractère peut donc être envisagé. SUMMARY Soybean, Glycine max., Droughtness, Growth, Yield, Dry matter, Drought resistance of soybeans I. -Drought stress effect on growth and yieldThis study attempts to estimate the effect of a drought stress on the growth of vegetative parts and on the yield components in soybeans. In the same time the genetic variability for drought resistance has been observed. Fifteen varieties were cultivated in drought boxes (1 m x 1 m x 0,5 m, 36 plants per box) and, since flowering time until maturity, two water treatments were applied : in the first one, the needs of the plants were filled and, in the second one, water supply was exactly the half of the first. Every two weeks after the beginning of flowering, five plants were harvested in each variety and each water treatment : measurements of the main canopy and stem morphological traits were made. At maturity, thirty plants were harvested in each variety and each water treatment and the principal yield components were measured. The leaf area index and the water contents of leaves, petioles and stem were the parameters affected the most rapidly by the drought stress. For the yield components, the number of pods per plant was the most sensible character. A drought resistance index was calculated for each variety, based on the ratio between the grain yield in each water treatment. The validity of the experimental procedure and of the drought resistance index is discussed. Results show large differences in varietal responses to the drought stress. So it seems possible to improve by a breeding program the drought resistance of soybeans.Les recherches réalisées sur ce sujet sont peu nombreuses.
