La placa dental como biofilm: ¿Cómo eliminarla?

Abstract: Biofilm is the natural form of bacterial growth in the oral cavity. It causes caries and periodontal diseases, and develops a higher resistance to antimicrobial agents. Therefore, studies should be addressed to show mouthrinse efficiency in penetrating into biofilm and producing enough bactericide action, or in avoiding biofilm development. At present, in this field we can only find studies that show the efficiency of chlorhexidine mouthrinses and of those with essential oils. Biofilm must be previously disrup… Show more

“…Los valores porcentuales de 0 a 12.0 % nos indican que el paciente retira bien el biofilm y su limpieza es aceptable; de 13.0 a 23.0 %: su limpieza es cuestionable, debe reforzarla y por último más del 24 %: no realiza una buena eliminación del biofilm, la limpieza es deficiente (8).…”

“…36 Ideally, an effective antiseptic must penetrate the biofilm. 37 Recent studies have suggested that bacterial phenotypes may change when the microorganisms turn from a planktonic condition (in suspension or freely floating) to a sessile condition (as part of a biofilm).…”
