Introduction: In the course of an illness, when the patient receives a poor prognosis, he can be assisted with dysthanasia or palliative care. The therapeutic choice and the adherence to it are related, among other factors, to the quality of the doctor-patient relationship. The objective of this study was to evaluate the patients’ point of view of the doctor-patient relationship in the end of life process, and compare scores between patients in palliative care and those experiencing dysthanasia. Method: The design was a descriptive survey with a non-probabilistic sample composed of 234 patients with cancer in the end of life process: 117 in palliative care and 117 expriencing dysthanasia. Two instruments were used: a biodemographic questionnaire and the Questionnaire for Assessing the Doctor-Patient Relationship in the End of Life Process, and data were analyzed using descriptive and bivariate statistics in the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software. Results: The results showed good evaluations of the doctor-patient relationship. Palliative care patients attributed better scores in terms of time dedicated, attention, confidence, understanding and communication; and patients experiencing dysthanasia made better assessments in terms of frequency of visits and continuity of care. Conclusion: It is concluded that this study represents an advance in studies on the subject and indicates that patients in palliative care perceive the doctor-patient relationship more positively than patients undergoing dysthanasia. It stressed that it is necessary to invest in training medical students and professionals to carry out interventions that prioritize the use of their oldest, simplest and most powerful technology: the relationship between professionals and patients.

El alivio del sufrimiento existencial en los pacientes oncológicos en estadio avanzado es un objetivo terapéutico de primer orden. En el presente trabajo se sugieren una serie de ejes sobre los cuales podría pivotar la intervención psicoterapéutica, con el fin de propiciar: 1) la experiencia de que a pesar del “ya” de la situación límite, la vida “todavía” tiene sentido; 2) experiencias emocionales positivas que promuevan el bienestar y la calidad de vida; 3) el afrontamiento de la experiencia de enfermedad grave y de muerte esperada más o menos inminente, mediante el desarrollo de una actitud serena, reconciliada con la vida e integradora con uno mismo y con los demás, a la par que abierta a la trascendencia.

Objetivo: Describir la in uencia de la espiritualidad en las dimensiones del cuidado en mujeres adultas mayores de un centro día de la ciudad de Bogotá. Material y Método: Estudio cualitativo etnográ co con entrevistas a profundidad, diarios de campo y observación participante durante actividades de arteterapia y cartas al cuerpo. Participaron 12 mujeres mayores de 60 años que asistían a un programa de atención en modalidad día en la ciudad de Bogotá (Colombia). Los datos fueron analizados siguiendo las cuatro fases propuestas por Leininger. Se tuvieron en cuenta los criterios éticos de la Resolución 8430 del Ministerio de Salud y la Declaración de Helsinki. Resultados: En la dimensión física se evidenciaron prácticas que integran capacitación constante, alimentación y ejercicio. En la dimensión psicológica se re ejaron necesidad de contar con relaciones sociales, contacto con la música y la naturaleza, así como emociones positivas. En la dimensión espiritual se encontró que está in uenciada por la creencia de un ser superior, ayudar a otros y el constante agradecimiento. Conclusiones: La espiritualidad, en las mujeres participantes de la investigación, impregna la dimensión física como la psicológica, por ello se requiere implementar procesos de atención en salud integrales que reivindiquen estas prácticas para fortalecer el cuidado y el envejecimiento saludables.
