Abstract:Dedication of Axios and Kapo to Artemis Nanaia and the Phosphorion of Piraeus
Nanaia is a Babylonian deity who was associated with Artemis in Hellenistic times. She is identified as a moon goddess as well as a deity of love and war, and as a protector of the sovereign and the country. The reason behind the assimilation between this oriental deity and Artemis lay in the commonality of functions between the two.
