Mexico possesses at least 59 taxa of Anthurium, 49 species and 10 infraspecific taxa, 32 of which are found in the State of Oaxaca, Mexico. During fieldwork conducted in 2019 in Sierra de Juarez, northern Oaxaca, we discovered a previously undescribed species of Anthurium sect. Andiphilum (Schott) Croat. The new species, Anthurium perezfarrerae Díaz Jim. & Croat, is described taxonomically and illustrated. It is morphologically similar to Anthurium andicola Liebm. that is distributed in the same area, but this species differs in having a shorter geniculum, fewer primary lateral veins per side, tertiary vein prominolous above, and a shorter spadix.

As an example, I will cite two cases for the state of Oaxaca, the first refers to the use of forest resources of the communities of the Sierra Juárez (Sastré, 2008;Aquino-Vásquez et al, 2020) where not only has favorably the income of families and their communities but also the environment through a sustainable use of resources. Given the situation of poverty and marginalization in which most of the communities in the rural areas of the Mexican South Southeast are found, a situation that affects 17 million people classified as in a situation of extreme poverty, agribusiness is an alternative under these conditions for it. An operational and practical methodology is required that allows a good identification and implementation of initiatives according to the situation and the environment. The objective of this work was to validate an operational methodological model called model for the competitiveness of small farmers in extreme poverty based on agribusiness. The validation project was developed in four pilot communities in the Mexican South Southeast considered to be highly marginalized and poor: San Andrés Tuxtla, Veracruz; Tahdziu, Yucatan; Ocotepec, Chiapas and San Jerónimo Taviche, Oaxaca. The applied model consists of four stages, diagnosis, incubation, development and maturity. The diagnosis considered in turn two sub-stages, one on the description of the environment and the actors and the second on the definition of the portfolio of opportunities. The incubation considered the sub-stages of prioritization through a qualification criteria and the business plan itself according to the conditions of the actors and the environment. The development stage is nothing more than the start-up and consolidation of the business with a view to continuous improvement. The results obtained were four agribusinesses in progress, one for each pilot community, with profitability indicators such as the Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 35.0%, 100.0%, 41.0% and 45.9% for jam production in San Andrés Tuxtla Veracruz, Stevia production and marketing in Tadhziu Yucatán, Hass avocado production and marketing in San Pablo Huacanó Chiapas and tomato production and marketing in greenhouses in San Jerónimo Taviche Oaxaca, respectively. The operational methodological model to identify and develop agribusiness in poor and marginalized communities was successfully validated. It is concluded that it is possible to develop profitable and competitive agribusiness in conditions of extreme poverty and marginalization.

La teoría de acción colectiva aplicada a los bosques de México ha sido una gran alternativa para estudiar el manejo de los paisajes forestales y los impactos socioeconómicos que se generan en los recursos de uso común. En este estudio se analizó el papel histórico de tres ejidos forestales en el estado de Durango en su organización y creación de instituciones internas para enfrentar cambios en la cobertura forestal. Se compararon dos periodos que abarcan desde la etapa de las concesiones forestales hasta el actual manejo forestal comunitario (1960-2018). Se utilizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas para estimar dos índices que relacionan la organización interna de las comunidades: el índice de organización social y el de institucionalidad comunitaria. Se usaron también las series cartográficas de Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía para determinar los cambios en la cobertura forestal en el periodo antes mencionado. Con base en los principios de acción colectiva de Ostrom, se analizó la efectividad de estos ejidos en la conservación de sus recursos. Los resultados muestran que los índices han incrementado con el tiempo, sugiriendo que los ejidos han mejorado en sus procesos de organización interna. Además, se encontró que existe una relación directa entre el incremento de la superficie forestal y ambos índices. El modelo forestal comunitario es una estrategia factible que puede contribuir a la preservación de estos ecosistemas. El fortalecimiento de la organización interna de las comunidades, incluyendo sus acuerdos institucionales, es importante para ayudar a transitar hacia un desarrollo sustentable en este tipo de recursos de uso común.
