Bacterial resistance to antibiotics and disinfectants has become a real concern. The hospital presents a favorable environment for the colonization and development of bacteria resistant to antibiotics and disinfectants. The search for new antimicrobial compounds is essential to combat this phenomenon. Tetrazole derivatives may represent a solution due to their interesting antibacterial activity. In this work, two tetrazole derivatives; thiophene-2-carbaldehyde (T2C) and 5-(thiophen-2-yl)-1H-tetrazole (5TPh-1HT), were evaluated for their antibacterial activities against a set of reference strains and strains isolated from the hospital environment. The antibacterial effect was studied by the disc diffusion method and by determination of MIC and MBC. The 5-(thiophen-2-yl)-1H-tetrazole (5TPh-1HT) has a broader spectrum of activity than its oxime derivative (T2C). The latter has bactericidal activity only on gram-negative Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa with MICs ranging from 0.62 mg/ml to 2.5 mg/ml, while 5TPh-1HT has a bactericidal effect on all strains with MICs ranging from 0.62 mg/ml to 1.25 mg/ml. Both products have a significant inhibitory activity on the strains tested in particular E. coli H, S. aureus H, P. aeruginosa and Streptococcus spp A. It was found that these activities vary depending on the microbial strain tested and the product applied.

Antibiotics are chemicals that kill or stop the growth of microscopic organisms or microbes, such as bacteria, fungi, or protozoa. Therefore, antibiotics can be used to treat diseases caused by germs in the body. The objective of the research was to know the description and pattern of antibiotic prescription at Dr. Moewardi Municipality Hospital Dental Ward, Surakarta. This study was based on the observational description with a cross-sectional study design. The samples taken for observation were 321 patients with medical records from September-December 2018. We applied secondary retrospective data and Defined Daily Doses (DDD)/Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical (ATC) from World Health Organization (WHO) Constanta. The data was then rated for its accuracy by tracing using Algorithm Gyssens. The results showed 71.96% of the patients received treatment and drug prescriptions, of which 36.45% were antibiotics. Amoxicillin was the most widely used antibiotic, followed by Clindamycin and Cefixime. The DDD/ATC ratio was 1.639982. The results from observation and identification with Gyssens category revealed that the categories 0, IIA, IIIB, IIIA, IVB, and V accounted for 75.35%, 2.82%, 8.45%, 7.75%, 4.93%, and 0.7%, respectively, of the consumed antibiotics. Accordingly, there is a rational prescription at Dr. Moewardi Municipality Hospital Dental Ward, Surakarta, but it still needs improvement.

Antibiotics are substances produced by microorganisms that can be used as a solution to kill or inhibit the development of other microorganisms. Antibiotics are often misused, which can lead to resistance due to the lack of information obtained by patients, causing non-compliance in taking antibiotics. One of the right ways to overcome non-compliance in taking drugs is by providing proper education or information about using them. To determine the effect of providing drug information on patient compliance in taking antibiotics in dental clinic patients at Dr. Moewardi Surakarta Hospital. This study used a cross-sectional method with 100 subjects in the dental clinic of Dr. Moewardi Surakarta. Data collection was done by assessing the completeness of the information provided by the officer and questionnaires filled out by the patients. Data analysis was performed by chi-square test. Patients with the obedient category were 72 (72%) respondents. The chisquare test showed the Contingency Coefficient value of 0.553 (P = 0.003). There was an effect between providing drug information on compliance to taking antibiotics in dental polyclinic patients at Dr. Moewardi Surakarta Hospital.
