This article proposes an original theory of interdisciplinarity and a revisionist history of interactions between the sociology and history disciplines. It examines relations between historians and sociologists in Germany and France over the course of the twentieth century, focusing on several key moments of interdisciplinary activity.The present article differs from the existing literatures on historical sociology and interdisciplinarity in several ways. Most accounts of historical sociology since the 1980s have depicted an endeavor taking place entirely within sociology, occluding other axes of interdisciplinarity. Rather than focusing on sociologists working historically, or historians working sociologically, I begin by reconstructing both of the disciplinary fields within the metafield of academic disciplines. I then consider the full range of interactions and practices coming from both directions. According to most previous accounts, disciplines evolve as unified totalities, generations, or waves. I analyze disciplines as social fields-as dynamic, relational, and internally heterogeneous and divided assemblages. Rather than asking how entire disciplines interact with one another, I focus on the ways specific actors and groups within disciplines relate to specific parts of external disciplines. I try to map the entire array of interactions and repulsions between disciplines. En 2016, les polémiques associées au retrait du nom de Claude Jutras de l'espace public et à l'inauguration du parc Jacques-Parizeau, auparavant connu en tant que parc Vimy, nous ont incités à étudier le rapport entre usage du passé et représentations symboliques dans la toponymie québécoise. Le 13 septembre 2017, Denis Coderre, maire de Montréal, annonçait un autre changement toponymique : Amherst « va prendre le bord. Out ! 2 » Alors que nous assistons à la remise en question de la présence de monuments commémoratifs controversés dans l'espace public, nous sommes d'avis que la discipline historique doit prendre part à cette discussion. Dans un premier temps, nous procéderons à une succincte recension des écrits concernant le geste politique qu'est la dénomination de lieux publics. Puis, suivra une analyse de cinq cas emblématiques de ce type de débat au Québec : la rue Amherst, la station de métro Lionel-Groulx, le boulevard René-Lévesque, la tentative de renommer l'Avenue du Parc en avenue Robert-Bourassa et le parc Jacques-Parizeau. Ces choix reposent uniquement sur la notoriété publique des débats relatifs à ces lieux. L'étude de ces cas, appuyée sur l'historiographie, nous permet de classer les fondements des controverses toponymiques selon deux catégories : la résurgence d'un passé irrésolu et la lutte mémorielle.Nommer un lieu relève d'un acte symbolique fort. Il s'agit d'inscrire l'équivalent d'une prise de possession du réel dans le champ de l'imaginaire collectif.
