L-Carnitine Attenuates Cardiac Dysfunction by Ischemic Insults Through Akt Signaling Pathway

et al.

Abstract: In the RESULTS section (subsection LC Improves Cardiac Function I/R), the following statement has been corrected: "We found that there was no significant difference on EF and FS among the 5 groups at the beginning, but I/R challenge significantly reduced the LV FS and EF in vehicle group comparing to the sham group (FS 0.23 6 0.02 versus 0.36 6 0.03, EF 0.42 6 0.03 versus 0.64 6 0.03, respectively; p < .01 for both) (Figs. 1B and C)."

“…Romestaing et al [32] have demonstrated the increase in COX expression mediated by MCDD that alters mitochondrial metabolism, as demonstrated with elevated ROS level. In addition, other studies have described the capacity of LC to attenuate ROS accumulation and cardiac dysfunctions in ischemic or irradiated hearts [44,45] and to decrease oxidative stress in normal and hyperglycemic cardiomyocytes [46,21]. The present study confirmed that LC attenuates ROS production in the liver (Fig.…”

“…Therefore, LC may possess antioxidant properties beyond its action on lipid metabolism. There is overwhelming evidence that LC confers benefits in diabetic podocyte injury [5] and myocardial infarction [6]. We have demonstrated that LC treatment ameliorates cyclosporine-induced pancreatic and renal injury [7].…”

“…Disruptions in the Akt-regulated pathways have been demonstrated to be associated with cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular and neurological diseases (53-55). Therefore, miR-16-2-3p has potential to be used in multiple therapeutic areas as an Akt inhibitor.…”
