Abstract

This thesis aims to understand how Tentehar women use their traditional and schooled practices, based on the interpretation of the narratives arising from their memories and experiences, considering their daily lives, without losing sight of the sociocultural and political context in which they are inserted. Therefore we prioritized investigating the invisibility and protagonism of indigenous women; the worldview, rites and myths; the sociopolitical and economic organization and; the relationship of these women with the territory. We adopted as a methodological approach of the ethnographic type, starting from a decolonial analysis. The data were obtained from a literature review, interviews with 11 Tentehar indigenous women and had as spatial cutout the indigenous lands Bacurizinho (Bacurizinho and Olho D'Água) and Morro Branco (Morro Branco) located in Grajaú, Maranhão, in addition to of technological recourses. The traditional practices and knowledge that we identified were knowing how to make handicrafts, sing, make body paitings, cure and protect through the supernatural and deliver childbirth. It was possible to conclude that knowledge is intertwined in daily activities and affects the social place they occupy, with emphasis on the chiefs, midwives, singers, nurses, nursing techniques and teachers.
