Abstract

Experimental research of wear in polyester resin and quartz based composites.  Identification of weight losses and wear resistance under the effect of different load and time parameters in wear.  Review of optical microscope and SEM images taken from the surfaces of composites.Figure A. Internal structure images of B type composite taken with optical microscope and SEMPurpose: Following the identification of weight loss values in wear of composites produced with quartz filling and polyester resin in an experimental study, wear resistance of composites was calculated and wear mechanism of composites was examined in this type of load effects. Theory and Methods:In this study, a wear machine was used with the principle of an abrasive paper (80 number SiO2) attached to the plate, which has an adjustable stroke (74 mm) and is able to carry out linear reciprocating motion, applying pressure on composite surface with different loads (10, 20, 30 N) and abrading the composite. Wear times are 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 minutes. The disk that drives the linear motion in the study rotates in 157 cycles/minute. 148 mm linear distance is made as double stroke in each cycle of the disk on the composite. Weights of the abraded composites were measured with a scale that has 1x10 -4 g sensitivity. A 0.02 mm sensitive caliper was used for the dimensional measurements of composites. For the vibrations applied in the production of composites, desk type vibrator shook the plate in 600 cycles/minute. A 250 C oven was used for dehumidification processes. In this study, a total of nine samples were produced with three types of composition including a standard granulometric curve composition (B), and a lower area (LA) and upper area (CH) outside these curves. Results:Weight losses increased with the increasing load and time. According to the weight loss values of three types of composites produced following the wear experiments, composite type B had the lowest loss of weight and greatest wear resistance. These results show that granulometric curves can be used to produce composites with a good structure. In the reviews made on optical microscope and SEM images which taken from the surfaces of composites, it was seen that matrix structure and filling materials grain distribution of composites confirmed the % values of standard granulometry distribution curves. Methods of applied in the study can be accepted right for the composites to be produced in a suitable structural distribution. In the correlation study performed for composite type B, the fact that R 2 value is close to 1 shows that data is reliable. No gap was formed between the matrix structure and filling materials. Conclusion:Weight loss value range of composite defined as type B was 0.0254-0.1949 g for different loads and times. Wear resistance value range was calculated as 1.4153-4.4334 Nm/m3.
