The primary purpose of this research is to determine heritage masters’ intangible cultural heritage (ICH) production practices, motivations, and perceived values and to learn their problems about the ICH. The qualitative research method was applied in this research. The qualitative research method is also essential for the participant to connect the past with the present and the future. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to determine the importance and place of ICH elements in the lives of heritage masters. A semi-structured interview is a technique that starts within the scope of questions determined by the researchers and continues according to the participant's answers during the interview. The answers to the questions were analyzed through thematic analysis. In the research, interviews were conducted with 11 heritage masters. Five questions were asked of heritage masters. The main theme, sub-themes, and sub-headings of the research were determined by analyzing the data obtained. The main theme of the research is the ICH elements of the lives of heritage masters. The research sub-themes are the beginning of ICH production, the delicacy of ICH production, ICH production motivations, ICH value perceptions, and ICH production problems. Because of local traditions, the knowledge and skills of the ICH are acquired mainly by boys at a young age. It demonstrates that masters have learned this art by transferring elements of the ICH from generation to generation. manual skill, creativity, and love for the work are essential in ICH production. It is crucial to propose different products not only with manual skills but also by adding creativity to the production. The main motivations of heritage masters are creating a new product, meeting people from different cultures, and gaining economic gain. Heritage masters stated that they relaxed psychologically with ICH production. They also pointed out that they devote an important time of their lives. For this reason, they stated that ICH elements are valuable for them. Lastly, they stated that they get to know different people through ICH production, which is why it is important for them. Heritage masters emphasize the increasing costs in ICH production, the lack of masters from the young generation, and unfair competition as the most important problems.

This study aims to determine how production processes that change with industrialization effect the traditional profession. In this context, the study, which has placed the Devrek Walking Stick in its focus, combined the relationship of industrialization with social changes with the transformation story of the walking stick. The study, which assumes that traditional professions have lost their resistance against the machine, emphasized their objectification within the consumer society supported by the modern production system. The transition process of the Devrek Walking Stick from the workshop to the factory was considered as the result of objectification. Increased profit motive and anxiety to reduce the cost of the work turned the "dogwood tree" cane into a "wooden board" made of tree. The walking stick, which turned into a wooden board, has lost all the meaningful practices produced by the master. The qualitative research design was used in the study. Interviews were made with 10 walking stick masters in Zonguldak/Devrek. The data are analyzed under three main headings: "Problems and interpretation of the profession", "discovering the effect of mechanization on the culture of the walking stick" and "difficulty of transferring the profession to the next generations." In the study, it was an important result that mechanization reduced the value of the walking stick and turned it into a touristic commodity.

ÖzSanayileşmenin beraberinde getirdiği seri üretim, geleneksel yöntemlerle yapılan üretimin devamlılığı noktasında olumsuz bir etkiye sahiptir. Her ikisi de insanların ihtiyaçlarına cevap vermeye dönük bir işlevi yerine getiren bu üretim tarzları, insanların tercih etme durumlarına göre varlıklarını devam ettirmekte ya da sona erdirme durumu ile karşı karşıya kalmaktadırlar. Sanayi odaklı üretimin pazarlama tekniklerini etkili bir şekilde kullanması ve geleneksel yöntemlerle yapılan üretime göre daha ekonomik olması gibi nedenler, geleneksel üretimin zayıflamasını da beraberinde getirmiştir. Temelleri UNESCO tarafından atılan, Türkiye'nin de taraf olduğu Somut Olmayan Kültürel Miras Sözleşmesi, kültürün birçok şubesini olduğu gibi, geleneksel üretimi ve geleneksel üretim yapan son ustaları da inceleme alanına dahil etmiştir. Verileri alan araştırması yöntemiyle tespit edilen bu çalışmada, Giresun yöresi geleneksel bıçak üretimi ve geleneksel bıçak üreten son ustaların envanteri ortaya konulmuştur. Çalışma ile birlikte Doğu Karadeniz yöresi genelinde Sürmene merkezli bir şekilde ön plana çıkan geleneksel bıçak üretiminin Giresun merkezli bir diğer çeşidi, geleneksel üretim tarzları, üretilen ürün çeşitleri ve geleneksel üretim yapan ustalar açılarından bir değerlendirmeye tabi tutulmuştur. Yapılan değerlendirmelerde Giresun yöresi geleneksel bıçak üretiminin köklü bir geçmişe sahip olduğu, yaşayan son iki ustası kaldığı, kendine özgü üretimi ve ürün çeşitleri olduğu tespit edilmiş, geleneğin devamlılığını sürdürülebilmesi açısından alınması gereken önlemler noktasında önerilerde bulunulmuştur. Abstract The serial production brought by industrialization has a negative effect at the point of continuity of production with traditional methods. These modes of production, both of which fulfill a function of responding to the needs of the people, are in the process of maintaining or ending their assests according to the preferences of the people. The reasons like the use of industry oriented production techniques effectively, and the fact that traditional methods of production are more economical, have brought about the weaking of traditional production. Established by UNESCO, Turkey's as a signatory to the Intangible Cultural Heritage Convention has included the traditional production and the last masters who produce traditionally, like many branches of the culture. In this study, of which data is determined by field research, traditional production of knife in Giresun region and the inventory of the latest masters producing traditional knife, has been presented. With the study, another kind of knife production centered on Giresun, that foregrounding as centered on Sürmene, throughout the Eastern Black Sea region, has been evaluated in terms of traditional modes of production, the kinds of products, traditional craftsman.
