Abstract:The conversion of adjacent diols into corresponding olefins by means of a diphosphorus tetraiodide reduction is known as the Kuhn–Winterstein reduction. The study finds that in most cases, this reaction gives
trans
‐olefins as major products, unless the diol group is a part of a ring. This reaction is impotant for the conversion of the diols into corresponding olefins.
