“…Management strategies range from observation to balloon dilatation, endoscopic excision and laryngectomy 5 26 Whilst laser (carbon dioxide and potassium titanyl phosphate) excision was considered effective in several studies, 27 30 there is evidence that cold endoscopic excision for small laryngeal and localised glottic lesions is appropriate 21 . The paediatric case in the current study employed the use of a microdebrider and coblation wands, the first such case in the literature.…”

“…In view of the presence of fragile capillaries because of amyloid infiltration, resection of the lesion with simultaneous hemostasis, with the laser, for example, may be the most suitable strategy wherever possible and accessible. 19 Keeping in mind the slow and prolonged disease progression, conservative resection with a yearly follow-up extended for up to 10 years is advised. All of our patients were offered surgical treatment.…”

“…The differential diagnosis includes hyalinized myomatous polyps, malignancy, and granulomatous conditions such as tuberculosis and scleroma of the larynx; the main differentiation must be made with chondrosarcoma, which is the most frequent cause of a calcified mass in the larynx [43]. The signal characteristics of amyloid on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) resemble those of skeletal muscles.…”

“…The signal characteristics of amyloid on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) resemble those of skeletal muscles. This feature may be an important differentiating point because muscle is an easy reference frame, and chondrosarcoma does not appear in this manner on MRI [43].…”
