Kolorektales Karzinom: Fortschritte in Diagnostik und präoperativem Staging

Abstract

Rapid gain in knowledge of the molecular biology of tumorigenesis and the introduction of novel principles of imaging into clinical routine have revolutionised the diagnostics and preoperative staging of colorectal cancer in the last 10 years. The best methods of preoperative staging today can be summarised as follows: Endorectal ultrasound gives most precise information on the local spread of a rectal carcinoma. Hepatic metastases of colorectal cancer are usually screened for by conventional ultrasound and most sophistically evaluated by spiral computerised tomography or magnetic resonance imaging. For the diagnosis of recurrent colorectal cancer, the role of whole-body positron emission tomography with 2-[¹⁸F]-fluorodeoxyglucose seems to gain overwhelming importance.
