This research analyzes the impact of decision making in couples on the usage of modern contraception and identifies the other relevant socioeconomic and cultural determinants. From "Côte d'Ivoire Demographic and Health Surveys 2012", the statistics results showed that the percent of women who have knowledge on contraception is very low. The usage of contraception is higher among young than older and is two times higher among urban than rural. The Probit regression results showed that decision-making power in couples has a strong positive significantly impact on using contraceptive methods. Furthermore, education, knowledge on methods, living environment and age are major determinants of the contraceptive practice. In contrast, Muslim religion has a negative significantly impact on the probability of using contraception. The reproductive health workers must involve couples and religious leaders, especially the Muslim authorities in advocacy and activities of sensitization for better usage of modern contraception in households. The health authorities must also reduce the regional gap concerning free distribution of the products of modern contraception. Similarly, the providers must play their role to increase access to the products of modern contraception to better meet the needs and satisfaction of women in family planning.

Background Contraceptive use is an essential care to reduce maternal and child mortality by preventing unwanted pregnancy and abortion. Despite different studies are conducted related to family planning services, difference in characteristics of changes and the effects of population behavior were not well addressed. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the trend of modern contraceptive use, and investigate the difference in characteristics of changes and the effects of population behavior in the use of modern contraceptives.Methods The data source were from a four consecutive Ethiopia demographic and health surveys of women with complete interview file from 2000 -2016. The total sampled married women considered for this study were 9,380 (2000), 8,644(2005), 10,204(2011) and 9,824 (2016). Descriptive analysis was applied to describe socio demographic variables, fertility desire and media exposure. Multivariate decomposition analysis was carried out to investigate the changes in characteristics and effect of population behavior in modern contraceptive use.Results The trend of modern contraceptive use was steadily increased from 6% in 2000 to 35% in 2016. The overall decomposition change in modern contraceptive use among married women was 8.3% (2000 to 2016); due to difference in characteristics. Variables contribute for the change are religion, residence, women’s and partners’ education, women’s and partners’ occupation, head of house hold, history of abortion and media of exposure.Conclusion The trend of modern contraceptive use was steadily increased in all surveys. The change in contraceptive use was due to change in characteristics and population health behavior.

INTRODUCTION: Contraception is a method which used to prevent pregnancy and to reduce the maternal mortality, particularly in 4T condition; too young to give birth, too often to give birth, too close in spacing between births, and too old to give birth. However, the number of Drop Out from contraceptive in Indonesia is still high due to the concern of contraceptive acceptors about the side effects of contraception and the inaccuracy of re-injection schedule causing the acceptors to stop using contraception. Conventional method has been used by publics to manage the contraception for a long time. In this case, conventional method has been used to deal with the side effects of contraceptive use. By using the conventional method, the acceptor must visit the public health to consult their complaints to a midwife.  Moreover, midwife will give the family planning control card to the acceptor which involves re-injection’s schedule. However, many acceptors do not come to do re-injection as the schedule because they do not have an automatic reminder to remind them. Thus, the researcher interested to create a contraceptive’s application in order to help the acceptors managing their schedule. MATERIAL & METHODS: This study employed comparative method to find out the comparison on the attitude of contraceptive acceptors in solving the problems by using the Smart Contraception application and conventional method. By using purposive sampling technique, 44 respondents were chosen in this study. The respondents were divided into two groups involving 22 respondents who used Smart Contraception application and 22 respondents who used conventional method. Then, the data were analyzed by using Chi-square test. RESULTS: The result of the study showed that the use of Smart Contraception application was better than conventional method in handling the problems experienced by contraceptive acceptors. The statistical result on the attitude of contraceptive acceptors in handling the problems of contraception shows p-value 0.026 (<0.05) and p-value 0.023 (<0.05) on the accuracy of re-injection schedule, which means that there was difference between the use of Smart Contraception application and conventional method. CONCLUSION: There was difference between the use of Smart Contraception application and conventional method. Furthermore, the use of Smart Contraception was better than conventional method in handling the problems experienced by contraceptive acceptors.
