Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the level of knowledge of dental trauma and especially permanent dental avulsion among the Department of Primary Education senior students. Material and Methods: Ethical approval of Hacettepe University Non-Interventional Clinical Research Ethics Board was obtained. The data were collected via a structured, pre-tested, selfadministered questionnaire in Hacettepe University Faculty of Education. Results: A total of 145 students, 60 (41.0%) from the division of Early Childhood Education and 85 (59.0%) from the division of Classroom Education participated in this descriptive study. Of the students, 9.7% had previously received training on oral dental injuries. Even 33.1% knew that avulsed permanent tooth can be replanted, 91.7% thought that the tooth should not be replanted by themselves. Almost all of the students (94.5%) wish to learn more information about dental trauma. Conclusion: It has been observed that senior students' level of knowledge related to dental trauma was inadequate. In this regard, prospective primary education teachers are in training need about this subject. It is also recommended that basic information on dental trauma has to be given in the context of first aid and emergency intervention trainings in these departments.

Introduction:Dental injuries could happen anywhere, including in the school compound. Correct management by the teachers in dental emergencies could prevent further damage to the traumatized tooth and improve the success rate of the treatment. Hence, the purpose of this study was to assess the knowledge and attitude towards dental trauma management among the primary school teachers in Kubang Kerian area. Methods: This descriptive study was conducted in three national primary schools in Kubang Kerian and multi-stages sampling was performed to select the subjects. One hundred and twenty teachers (n = 120) were randomly selected and responded to a set of a self-administered questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics, knowledge, and attitude towards dental trauma. Results: A total of 120 primary school teachers, predominantly female teachers (74.2%) participated in this study. More than half of the teachers (62.5%) have more than 15 years of teaching experience. Onethird of the teachers (34.2%) have completed first aid training; however, dental trauma management subject was lacking (1.7%). About 31.7% of the respondent had experienced dental trauma case. Eightyfive percent of the teachers did not opt for tooth replantation in the case of avulsion and almost all the teachers (97.5%) did not choose fresh milk as the medium storage of the avulsed tooth. Conclusion: The level of knowledge and attitude on dental trauma management among school teachers is unsatisfactory. As a recommendation, first aid training given to the teachers should include basic knowledge of dental trauma management. The awareness can be improved by organizing talk or campaign on dental trauma management at the school level.

Elementary school teachers’ knowledge and attitudes toward emergency management of traumatic dental injuries

The consequences of traumatic dental injuries can be even more serious when their emergency management procedures are inadequate. Since traumatic accidents frequently occur at school, it is crucial that teachers be knowledgeable enough to assist an injured child. This study aimed to assess the knowledge and attitudes of the elementary school teachers of a Brazilian city toward dental trauma in permanent teeth, and its emergency practices. A combination of convenience and snowball sampling methods was used. An online questionnaire was distributed through social media, consisting of three parts: demographic characteristics and professional information; previous experiences and attitudes toward dental trauma; teachers' knowledge of this subject. Descriptive and statistical analyses were carried out. Pearson chi-squared test (p < 0.05) was used. A total of 217 teachers participated in the study. The power of the sample was 95%. Half of the teachers had already witnessed a dental trauma incident involving students, and 70.5% never received any information on the subject. The teachers who were provided previous information were the ones who opted to search for the tooth fragment (p=0.036) in cases of crown fracture, and for the lost tooth (p = 0.025) in cases of avulsion. They were also the ones who chose to wash the tooth in running water (p = 0.018), and look for a dentist in the first 30 or 60 minutes after the trauma (p = 0.026). Most of the teachers assessed did not have adequate knowledge of dental trauma. Having previous information was associated with more assertive practices in trauma management.
