Until today, visual art education (VAE) received limited attention in Malaysian particularly at the secondary school level. Students are allocated to the arts stream during upper secondary school based on the outcomes of their prior examinations. Hence, this study aims to explore current art students' interest, challenges, and their commitment to art education. This study employed a survey research design to collect the relevant quantitative data using questionnaire This study involved 62 students from Art Stream students. They were purposefully selected among secondary school students in Selangor, Malaysia. The students answered the questionnaire in Google Forms which were distributed online to the respondents. Questionnaires were used as research instruments to identify respondents' perceptions of Visual Art Education. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively statically using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 23 to obtain the frequency distribution, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The findings in this study showed that factors that affect students' commitment to Visual Art Education are they are easily stressed by the lack of art materials and tools to do the Visual Art activities, they think that Visual Art Education is difficult and the lack of exposure to Visual Art Education. We could see that the students think Visual Art Education is important in their studies and can enhance their creativity. The finding also shows that teachers used improper teaching aids.

Malaysian visual arts have experienced significant growth and transformation in recent years. This reflects the current development of artists experimenting with new forms and media to convey their ideas and attract the audience's interest. This article explores the role of computer technology as an expanded form of media in the context of Malaysian visual arts. This article looks at how Malaysian artists incorporate computer technology in producing their work by using technology and not expanding the boundaries of traditional media use. This article will explain how artists use computer technology as an expanded media in changing and providing a different perspective in the context of visual art in Malaysia rather than directly giving the identity of the expanded media in Malaysia. This paper aims to provide a deeper understanding of the role of computer technology in the context of Malaysian visual art and shape the future of visual arts in Malaysia.

The Visual Arts Education Crisis in Malaysia: Placement of Students into the Arts Curricular Stream at the Upper Secondary Level in Malaysian Secondary Schools

In Malaysia, the curricular subject of visual art, especially at secondary school level, pays little attention to the aspect of artistic knowledge development. Students are assigned to the arts stream based on their Level Three assessment results, which ultimately causes problems in the visual art learning process in the classroom. On the other hand, formal art education is absent among students in the science stream and visual art is perceived to be only for underperforming students, when in fact visual art can be a valuable subject for all students. This study used a qualitative triangulation method to assess the similarities between data from face-to-face interviews, observations and literature study. Visual arts education is duly needed at the upper secondary level of education in Malaysia to cultivate future generations with creative and critical minds. However, does the art education offered in the arts stream actually benefit the students who are assigned to this curricular stream based on the existing student placement system? This study aimed to investigate problems and issues in Malaysian visual arts education based on the system of student placement into curricular streams.
