Purpose To effectively implement knowledge management, one prerequisite is to understand and implement the knowledge management enablers in the sense of optimal institutional efficiency. This paper aims to analyze and measure the significant enablers in overseeing knowledge management in the construction sector. Design/methodology/approach The mixed-method technique was used to achieve the objective of this study and involved the application of detailed questions to project engineers and project managers within leading construction engineering companies, provided by the Institution of Engineering and Technology Ghana. In total, 150 questionnaires were collected and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences v. 26. Findings The study confirms that the knowledge management enablers such as employees knowledge, motivations, effective decisions and strategic planning are some of the important ways in which construction professionals can achieve different strategic goals in many processes and concluded that the progress of the next generation knowledge management strategy will be based on content sharing, decision-making and by promoting the free flow of ideas. Originality/value The study offers perspectives into knowledge management enablers and recommends key performance factors, championed by Ghanaian construction contractors for institutional knowledge capture.

Depending on outsourcing software services is increasing so it became important to understand the idea fully and know how to manage it. This paper aims to identify and prioritize software outsourcing problems facing organizations in the UAE and to propose a solution for keeping these services under control. Thus, to meet project’s objectives and answer research questions, qualitative research approach was used to cover “what” and “how” questions of the paper. The research’s data were collected through employing semi-structured interviews done with IT managers, business managers and vendors from three organizations and three service providers so a total of nine interviews were conducted. The results indicated that organizations are outsourcing their software services because of some common reasons and in the same time they are facing issues with their service providers. The discussion revealed shared problems among participants and prioritize them according to their repetition. The value and originality of this research comes from revealing the set of problems facing each one of three studied groups: IT manager, business manager and vendors to provide a clear image of the reality of software outsourcing in the UAE and to help future researches about the topic. Based on findings and relevant literature a set of practical implications were suggested to control software outsourcing services and eliminate their risks on clients and vendors.

Purpose This paper aims to reveal the expression and specificity of customer knowledge integration in the open innovation process in the health-tech sector. Design/methodology/approach The collection method of data for this research is hermeneutic interview with top management or employees, which are directly responsible for innovation development in the organization. Only innovative organizations, which act in the health-tech sector and have high level of knowledge intensity, were selected. Interviews with ten organizations had reached saturation of data. Data coding and analysis was conducted by using MAXQDA 18. Findings The results showed that customer knowledge integration research mechanisms depend on different markets and open innovation process in the health-tech sector. Practical implications The results of research increase understanding and ability to integrate customer knowledge more effectively in the open innovation process in the organizations. Following it, organizations become more flexible and gain sustainable competitive advantage. Originality/value Open innovation development is intensive knowledge activity that requires continuous knowledge updating. The success of open innovation with customers requires effective utilization and adaptation of customer knowledge which is the result of customer knowledge integration in the open innovation process. Scientific literature identifies different mechanisms that help to integrate knowledge successfully. However, these mechanisms are common for all kinds of knowledge. Therefore, this research was focused on looking into the specificity of the context of customer knowledge because it is the most complicated kind of all knowledge.
