Knowledge based Recommendation System in Semantic Web - A Survey

Abstract: Knowledge based recommendation systems use knowledge about users and products to make recommendations. Knowledge-based recommendations are not dependent on the rating, nor do they have to gather information about a particular user to give recommendations. Knowledge acquisition is the most important task for constructing knowledge-based recommendation system. Acquired knowledge must be represented in some structured machinereadable form, e.g., as ontology to support reasoning about what products meets the user'… Show more

“…In addition, the structure and semantics defined by an ontology facilitate the creation of rules to generate recommendations based on explicitly specified constraint or rules. That is, elements that satisfy the rules with respect to a given set of user's requirements are generated as a recommendation [64].…”

“…• Collaborative filtering [3]: It is based on the feedback (rating) on items provided by similar users. • Knowledge-based recommendation [4]: This approach consists in using ontologies to model knowledge about the user context, the item context and the domain. • Hybrid recommendation [5]: This approach combines the three above ones, to take advantage of the benefits of each of them.…”

“…The preliminary step of our approach is the construction of a vocabulary to capture the sourcing knowledge [6] by identifying and combining several relevant standard metadata repositories such as ESCO, 1 ROME, 2 NAF, 3 UNSPSC, 4 and CPF, 5 . Our sourcing vocabulary gathers 124040 concepts.…”
