Viral hepatitis has become a silent epidemic and a major public health problem worldwide. Among the viral hepatitis, Hepatitis C is one of most common dreaded infectious disease. Hepatitis C infections can be a potential occupational hazard for dental personnel. Objective: To assess the knowledge and attitude related to Hepatitis C among the dental interns. Materials and Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted using structured, selfadministered, 32 items questionnaire among 147 dental interns in Davangere city. Descriptive analysis of the data was done. The attitude and knowledge of dental interns was assessed by using Chi-Square Test. Results: Of the total studied individuals, 2 students (1.4%) showed poor knowledge, 18 students (12.2%) moderate knowledge and 125 students (86.4%) had good knowledge of hepatitis C. Furthermore, 124 participants (84.4%) demonstrated positive attitude, and 22 participants (15.0%) had negative attitude. Conclusion: Majority of the participants in the present study had good knowledge and positive attitude towards treating such patients. As the study was only conducted in two dental colleges in Davangere city. Therefore, the results are obviously generalizable only among this sample.

BACKGROUND Dentists are at high risk for Hepatitis B infection. Vaccination provides effective immunity. Not all dentists are vaccinated despite awareness and availability. Hepatitis B vaccination for health care workers is mandatory as per Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2018. The present study was planned to determine the vaccination status amongst dentists and their approach to Hepatitis B infected patients. METHODS After the institutional ethics committee permission, the study was initiated. A Google form along with an online consent was emailed to all dentists registered with Maharashtra dental council (MDC). Post survey, a short information sheet was mailed to all, about the need for Hepatitis B vaccination and certain aspects related to it. The responses were automatically transferred to a Microsoft excel sheet and analyzed. RESULTS 16,418 emails were sent out. 371 (2.3 %) participants responded, 352 (2.1 %) working dentists were included. 78.2 % (N = 273) were from urban area. 56 % (N =192) participants were in the age group 22-30 years. Male to female ratio was 0.8:1. 52.2 % (N = 184) had own clinic and 34.4 % (N = 121) were private practitioners. 56.4 % (N = 195) were dental graduates and 43.6 % (N = 151) were postgraduates. The vaccination status of dentists was found to be 74.7 % (N = 263). Only 22.1 % (N = 58) had tested for antibody titre against Hepatitis B, 55.7 % (N = 196) dentists routinely carried out hepatitis B testing of their patients. If patients tested positive, 53.1 % (N =187) provided dental care in their own clinic. CONCLUSIONS Improving the hepatitis B vaccination amongst dentists will improve their safety and reduce their fear of managing infected patients. OBJECTIVES:The objective of the current study was to assess knowledge, attitude and practices of dentist regarding cross infection in Khyber College of Dentistry (KCD) and Sardar Begum Dental College (SBDC) Peshawar.MATERIALS AND METHODS:This descriptive cross sectional study was conducted at two tertiary care hospitals having sample size 214 with 94 males and 121 females. A pilot study was conducted at Hayatabad Medical Complex to assess the reliability of questionnaire. Self administered anonymous questionnaire was administered to 214 dentists. The dentist in each health care facility was observed for their knowledge, attitude and practice regarding cross infection.RESULTS:Knowledge of dentist’s was optimum but they were lacking sufficient knowledge in areas of sterilization and cross infection due to waste material present in pipes of dental units. Significant numbers of them 28.8% were not agreed with the role of wearing rings in cross infection during dental procedure. Although lack of hand washing and impression was considered as a source of cross infection and 33.9% reported poor attitude regarding hand washing, 39.9% were not regarding the hygiene of nails in cross infection control. Similarly only 59% of them have shown positive attitude towards the vaccination of dental professionals. Although the knowledge and attitude was seen acceptable but their practices regarding the infection control were lacking in area of use of N95 respirator, taking off jewelry during dental surgeries, use of filtered water, use of anti-retraction valve, use of rubber dam for aerosols, use of separate box for sharp disposal and use of disinfectants in dental units..CONCLUSION:From current study it was concluded that dentists have good knowledge but poor practice regarding various aspect of infection control which provide an indication either lack of availability facilities or poor supervision and monitoring, due to lack of policy and implementation regarding cross infection control in dental units
