Background: Dental implant therapy is still considered an evolving field in Nepal, with most dentists favoring implant placement following the delayed loading protocol (>3 months) even in the rehabilitation of missing anterior teeth. There is need to understand the clinical difference between immediate and delayed loading protocols of the dental implants. With advent of immediate loading protocol of dental implants, instant rehabilitation in addition to better esthetics and self-confidence can be obtained. Aims and Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the knowledge and attitude of general dentist towards immediate loading protocol of dental implants. Materials and Methods: A descriptive, cross sectional survey was conducted among Nepalese general dentists who have entered their clinical practice in private or government hospital regardless of their years of experience. A self-administered questionnaire adapted from some previous studies was framed and distributed with the primary objective to determine their knowledge and attitude towards immediate loading protocols of dental implants. Data collected were analyzed using the Statistical Packages for the Social Sciences version 22 (IBM Corp, Armonk, NY, USA). Results: Among the 250 participants included in this study, 94.8% of the respondents completely filled the questionnaire. Nearly 46.4% of participants had good knowledge on the procedure and advantages offered by the immediately loaded dental implants with provisional restorations, whereas 83.1% had negative reservations toward implant placement using the protocol. In addition, this study found a statistically significant association (p<0.05) between the knowledge and attitude of dental practitioners regarding the protocol. Conclusion: Although dental implants have changed the outlook of dentistry in the past few decades, there is slightly poor knowledge and significant negative attitude of dentists toward the immediate implant loading protocol. The general dentist are expected to increase their awareness about immediate loading with subsequent training on its use and viability so that proper information can be disseminated to the patients. This will help to increase the practice of immediate implant in indicated cases by implantologist with further benefit to patient’s time and esthetics.

Background and Aim: Considering the increasing use of dental implants in replacing lost teeth, the odds of failure over time in this treatment are inevitable, as with other dental treatments; thus, it requires careful and regular follow-up. Accordingly, the present study aimed to evaluate the awareness and attitude of general dentists about the follow-up of the dental implants to create baseline information to schedule future workshops concerning dental implants. Methods & Materials: In this analytic cross-sectional study, 98 general dentists of Arak City, Iran were evaluated. Questionnaires were designed in 3 sections, as follows: demographic, awareness, and attitude. After checking the validity and reliability of the questionnaires, they were distributed among the research participants. The obtained data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, Chi-squared test, and Independent Samples t-tests. The significance level was considered 0.05. Ethical Considerations: This article was approved by the Ethics Committee of Arak University of Medical Sciences (Code: IR.ARAKMU.REC.1397.283). Results: The average score of awareness of the questionnaires was equal to 10.8 (based on the score of 0-19); the mean score of attitude was measured as 12.8 (based on the score of 7-21). Fifty-Three of the explored dentists had performed implant treatment, whose awareness and attitude toward implants follow-up were significantly higher than those of the dentists who did not perform such treatment (P=0.0001). Work experience presented no significant effect on the examined dentists’ awareness and attitude (P>0.05). Conclusion: General dentists have low awareness and attitude about implant follow-up. Follow-up plays an important role in the long-term success of implant therapy; therefore, dental education/retraining programs should be reviewed in this field.

Aims & Objectives: Implant therapy has become a significant part of day-to-today dental practice. Adequate knowledge of diagnostic as well as therapeutic options is therefore necessary for all general dental practitioners. The present study is designed to evaluate and assess the knowledge, attitude and practice of practitioners about the prosthetic phase of dental implant. As the dental implant therapy is emerging in Vidarbha region of India and lack of studies evaluating the same, we recommend that awareness regarding prosthetic phase will allow practitioners to offer extensive treatment options for patient with missing teeth using dental implants. Materials and Methods: This is an observational questionnaire survey conducted among 210 General Dental Practitioners in Vidarbha Region of India. A google form validated questionnaires distributed to assess their knowledge, attitude and practice among the study participants. Data were analysed using SPSS 22.0 version software. Results: A total of 210 dentists, nearly 69% of the participants had good knowledge of prosthetic phase of implant and majority of practitioners in the study had positive attitudes and practices toward the prosthetic phase of implant placement. Results were significant for KAP but co-relation between them was statistically not significant (p=0.12). Conclusion: In overall, practitioners have a significant level of knowledge about the prosthetic phase of an implant. There is a limitation of practise and exposure of dentists in this field of prosthetics because the majority of practitioners have not placed enough implants. Implant training and prospective prosthetic rehabilitation are thus adjuvant learning aids that will improve general dental practitioners' knowledge, attitude, and practice.
