“…The results are similar to those found by other studies [5][6][7][8]10,13,16,19,27,33 in that socio-demographic characteristics have been found to affect dental health knowledge and attitudes. The findings confirm that parents from Asian families, those living in deprived areas and parents who have had no further education all have less chance of having high levels of dental knowledge and positive dental attitudes.…”

Cultural practices specific to the region can be one of the obstacles to improvement in attitudes and oral health practices among the public (Amin & Harrison, 2009;Ismail, 2003).…”

So far, one study done in Serdang, Malaysia found that parents of children with early childhood caries had adequate knowledge and positive attitude towards maintaining satisfactory dental care in their pre-school children (Syahrial et al, 1995). However, practice among these parents was not evaluated.…”

“…This reality can be due to the fact that most of the mothers had received the information about children's oral health but they were not practicing the proper way to nurse their child and taking care of their child's teeth. The study of Syahril et al 11 also revealed that these attitude were not reflected in the dental health status of their children, eventhough parents had adequate knowledge and positive attitude to their children's dental care.…”
