Know Your Heart: Rationale, design and conduct of a cross-sectional study of cardiovascular structure, function and risk factors in 4500 men and women aged 35-69 years from two Russian cities, 2015-18

Abstract: Russia has one of the highest rates of cardiovascular disease in the world. The International Project on Cardiovascular Disease in Russia (IPCDR) was set up to understand the reasons for this. A substantial component of this study was the Know Your Heart Study devoted to characterising the nature and causes of cardiovascular disease in Russia by conducting large cross-sectional surveys in two Russian cities Novosibirsk and Arkhangelsk. The study population was 4542 men and women aged 35-69 years recruited from… Show more

“…We performed the retrospective external validation study of our deep learning ECG algorithm to detect LVSD (defined as LVEF ≤ 35%) in a study of subjects from the cross-sectional Know Your Heart Study in Russia [7]. The primary outcome was the predictive ability of the deep learning network to identify subjects with LVSD from ECGs from this external validation study.…”

“…ECGs longer than 10 s were truncated to 10 s. Of note, the algorithm was previously trained on 10 s ECGs raw signals sampled at 500 MHz as highlighted below. TTE was performed using GE VividQ machines (GE Healthcare) in accordance with a strict-defined protocol [7]. Two methods of LVEF were used in the Know Your Heart Study (biplane and Teichholz formula).…”

“…We used data on men and women aged 40-69 years who took part in two population-based studies. The Know Your Heart (KYH) study 14 is a cross-sectional study conducted in Russia in 2015-2017. The seventh wave of Tromsø Study (Tromsø 7) 15 was conducted among the residents of the municipality of Tromsø (Norway) in 2015-2016.…”

“…The Tromsø 7 study had a good response rate (65%), as did the study in Arkhangelsk (68%), although in Novosibirsk the response rate was low (41%). 14 The participants who did not attend the health check in KYH study were likely to have more adverse risk factor profile than those who did (online supplemental tables 2 and 3). However it is notable that our estimates of diabetes prevalence from KYH are consistent with those of other population-based studies in Russia.…”
