Knee Joint: Comprehensive Assessment with 3D Isotropic Resolution Fast Spin-Echo MR Imaging—Diagnostic Performance Compared with That of Conventional MR Imaging at 3.0 T

Abstract: FSE-Cube has similar diagnostic performance as a routine MR imaging protocol for detecting cartilage lesions, cruciate ligament tears, collateral ligament tears, meniscal tears, and bone marrow edema lesions within the knee joint at 3.0 T.

“…[15][16][17][18] In our study, the total scan time of DE-VISTA at closed-and opened-mouth positions was 13 min 30 s. Diagnosis of disk dislocation cannot be established solely on the basis of oblique sagittal MR imagingˆndings. An oblique coronal section was also necessary to diagnose TMD.…”

“…Recently, use of the volumetric isotropic TSE acquisition (VISTA) sequence at clinical sites has enabled high speed imaging, even for spin echo 3D imaging. [15][16][17][18] We hypothesized that the dual echo VISTA (DE-VISTA) method could be used to overcome the issues of prolonged scan duration and susceptibility eŠects at the TMJ. In addition, because DE-VISTA-PDWI and DE-VISTA-T 2 WI have identical positional information, their data can be precisely added and calculated per voxel.…”

“…In conclusion, previous studies (8,12) have shown the potential for using Cube to image the knee joint of 5T at an outside institution shows cyst within the CPN (asterisks). There is some cyst extension medially (arrowhead), but the complete course of the intraneural cyst is not demonstrated; specifically, the cyst within the articular branch cannot be seen.…”

“…Also, an intermediate-weighted 3D FSE sequence with isotropic resolution (Cube, GE Healthcare) was shown to detect cartilage lesions with a significantly higher sensitivity than a routine protocol [28], and this technique was optimized regarding image quality and motion artifacts [29]. Three-dimensional FSE sequences with isotropic spatial resolution allow reconstructions in arbitrary imaging planes and are currently adapted to hip cartilage imaging; the preliminary results with these sequences are promising, as shown in Figure 1.…”
