KLK6 mediates stemness and metabolism of gastric carcinoma cells via the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway

Abstract: Gastric cancer is a common tumor of the digestive system, which can occur in any part of the stomach. Kallikrein 6 (KLK6) is a trypsin-like serine protease and has been found to be involved in extracellular matrix remodeling, tumor invasion and nervous system plasticity. Our previous study reported that KLK6 suppressed HGC-27 gastric cancer cell growth by inhibiting epithelial-mesenchymal transition; however, the mechanism of action underlying the effect of KLK6 still remains unclear. The aim of the present st… Show more

“…Among the top 25 genes is GDF15, a marker of DUOX2+ WAE-like and WAE-like cells, which is highly expressed in KPT-treated cells, where these cell types are more abundant due to the greater efficiency of Paneth cell differentiation [ 24 , 25 ]. Conversely, KLK6 is highly expressed in the control-treated population, which has been shown to mediate the multipotency of intestinal stem cells [ 26 , 27 ].…”

“…To our knowledge, such a regulatory mechanism has not been investigated previously. Klk6 is involved in activating proliferation, extracellular matrix remodeling, and tumor invasion, while also promoting the growth and invasion of gastric cancer cells [ 43 , 44 ], as well as ovarian and colorectal cancer [ 45 ]. In salivary gland tumors, this kallikrein was found to be downregulated [ 45 ].…”
