Klatskin Tumor: A Population-Based Study of Incidence and Survival

Abstract: Background Klatskin tumor (KCC) is a rare type of tumor, with an annual incidence rate of no more than 1: 100 000. Because of its rarity, KCC is difficult to investigate. The present study provides new insights into KCC by a using public database. Material/Methods We used the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database to conduct the analysis. Klatskin tumor patients were identified and compared with patients that had other kinds of cholangiocarcinomas (… Show more

“…As our results indicated, age was signi cantly correlated with OS rates, with older age corresponding to shorter OS, which was in accordance with the published studies [27,28]. To obtain the most signi cant difference between age groups, optimal cut-off values derived from X-tile analysis were applied to both the training and validation cohort.…”

“…Although perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (HCCA) represents 50-70% of all types of bile duct carcinomas, it is a very rare disease, with an annual incidence rate no greater than 1:100,000. 1 Radical surgery with negative histological margins is needed for long-term survival. 2 However, the adjacent location of HCCA to the hepatic artery, portal vein, and hepatic parenchyma complicates complete resection.…”

“…Therefore, the early diagnosis of cholangiocarcinoma needs further development. In the past years, the incidence rate of cholangiocarcinoma has gradually increased (9)(10)(11). Development of strategies for early diagnosis and effective treatment is the top priority.…”
