Abstract:We study kink and fluting waves in expanding and twisted magnetic-flux tubes. We use the thin-tube and zero-beta plasma approximations. The equilibrium magnetic field is force-free with a constant proportionality coefficient between the electrical current and magnetic field. We derive the equation governing the kink and fluting wave in a tube. Using this equation we study the propagation of kink waves in a particular case of a magnetic tube homogeneous in the axial direction. We show that while there is only o… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
